Gregory Kan is a writer based in Auckland and Wellington. His poetry has been featured in literary journals such as the Atlanta Review, Landfall, The New Zealand Listener, SPORT and Turbine. His poetry and philosophical work have also featured in exhibitions and publications for contemporary art institutions such as the Auckland Art Gallery, Artspace, the Adam Art Gallery, the Dunedin Public Art Gallery and the Physics Room. His first book, This Paper Boat, was published by Auckland University Press in 2016. An earlier incarnation of This Paper Boat was shortlisted for the Kathleen Grattan Poetry Prize in 2013. The book was also a finalist in the Ockham New Zealand Book Award for Poetry in 2017. He is one of two Grimshaw-Sargeson Fellows for 2017.

The sequence recorded here is a selection from This Paper Boat. Large portions of the book depend on the slow accumulation of context, and I have not had the opportunity until now to read these particular poems in sequence.
