The Kopu Bridge
(4MB)
The Kopu Bridge is an ancient, single lane road bridge that connects travellers from Auckland to the Coromandel Peninsula. Well known for traffic jams at peak travelling times, the Kopu Bridge is a journey in itself. There is the frustration of the traffic lights, then the initial part of the bridge, followed by the rhythm of the expansion grids as one encounters the draw-bridge section. Finally there is the last stage and the relief of reaching the other side, where the road is once again two way, and the journey can continue.
