vi Under Observation

you can’t ask them to keep their eyes
off you: they have every right

but what singularity marks you out
from the others in the restaurant?

take this unripe peach: try to eat it
green & hard & sour you pretend

it is delicious to disappoint their
casual lust for human suffering –

you should make the most of it
this interest you excite: eyes eager

for diversion avid for disaster: tears
tantrums total collapse or who knows? –

a surprise success: a bite of peach
that is unexpected utter nectar.
