if it happens
if it happens it happens
if not i don’t care
just happy to sit here
and watch things occur
there is no reason
u have to comply
we're all individuals
make up your own minds
there is a time and a place for all things
time for the warriors
time for the kings
time for the reds
and there’s time for the blues
everything changes but nothing is new
when it happened the first time
it felt like a dream
i thought i was living
in next magazine
there is no wisdom
for me to impart
you had to be there
like we were in heart
there is a time and a place for all things
time for the warriors
time for the kings
time for the reds
and there’s time for the blues
everything changes but nothing is new
The last line is kind of copped off Loudon Wainwright (credit where credit’s due). I like the way I worked sports teams into the chorus. Don McGlashan writes a lot about New Zealand and uses local place-names. They’re very much part of rock and roll mythology – Memphis, Tennessee etc. I think if you want to create a myth of New Zealand, then you have to use local names. I went to America and the main thing that struck me about all those mythic rock and roll places is how ordinary they were. Just mentioning a place in a song instantly glamorizes it. [MB]
