AUL holds a large number of manuscripts and unofficial Chinese literary publications from the late 1970s and 1980s. The quality and range of the collection is due in large part to the efforts of former University of Auckland Professor of Chinese John Minford and Asian Languages Librarian Hoong Lun. The presence of Yang Lian, Yo Yo, Gucheng and others in Auckland in the late 1980s substantially expanded the collection. Yang Lian worked in the Library’s Asian Languages Collection
for some of this period.
