- Laureates at the Library: Cilla McQueen and Michele Leggott
It is Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day 22 July 2009. Wellington is covered in poetry posters and the National Library of New Zealand, Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa, is about to announce the next New Zealand Poet Laureate. A waiata sung by Cellia Joe and Huria Robens echoes in the auditorium. Addresses by Director of Māori, Pacific and International Services John Mohi, Chief Librarian Penny Carnaby and Minister of Internal Affairs Nathan Guy begin the evening. Then come readings by Michele Leggott, outgoing laureate, and Cilla McQueen, in MacDonald of Clanranald tartan, New Zealand Poet Laureate 2009-2011. Cilla holds the mātua tokotoko carved by Jacob Scott of Ngāti Kahungunu, Te Arawa and Ngāti Raukawa, and thinks of the poem by Hone Tuwhare that Jacob has placed in the heart of the tokotoko.
- Poetry Reading at Otago Uiversity, 11 Sept , 2012. (Humanities Public Lecture)
