At Otoko above Wanganui the wharepuni marks the crest
Where Te Kooti broke fast on a forced march.

In ‘Tauakira’ the panels are browned from earth fires
The backbone is held by a dull tooth of the forest.

The house was built by the father of the one kaumatua
Surviving – the mouth of his sockets holds an age.
