afternoon tea with Michele Leggott
take moonlight reading down
wind in our hair this passion
now an iris a pearl a slow scent
I find the summer constellations
embracing me the three daughters change
a world of thickening picnics
our laughter so like flowering quince held still
'be loved be happy, feed and be fattened on this'
this promise of life delivered with pain
our literature the bright edges that step
but hear the mad noon the script of wind
with oceans snow heart or line you
writing delicious rip and leaf
out of our bones that scarcely sleep
