'But my fear of reading, Giovanni
Caboto, you must remember it, macaws,
Jamayca, coming in the window,
even here, the cold being severe
and the ranges, Spain's edges, hard &
white.. and when we were twenty
rising in the early morning to swim
under the blurred hulls of small boats
C left en el alto viajo his fourth
the wynde giving a prosperous blaste
to the sayles.. but he is displaced Giovanni,
& he still thinks the world round. '
(Vol 148 no. 5 Nov 1975 'The Sailor
Who Gave Us the New World'. )
