The most ornate church behind, high,
the spire to Apirana Ngata lined over the rivermouth's
gap, that bisects the coast in a profile reminiscent
of a sharp trough in a seismograph. Dark marble,
commissioned in Auckland, with lines that
in English or Maori tell
he was the father of his people, their representative..
a tall memorial, a diary that's an end, a formality,
made in the cast of a lighthouse
among locations picked out in its semi-orbit
back, (what we lived with) its forward arc
pitching (Willy's spell-bound) east over some point at sea.. /

it records 'Puanga has vanished into space'

And when he tossed his spinner his people
