how the woman dealt with her lover

she bathes
she thinks
‘tonight his fingers will sweeten me’
unbuttoning the row of currants on her blouse
tulips
nosing from a plain ground

come on gingerbread man
are you running as fast as you can?

but he’s spent today
reclining on a hot tray    and scorched

‘Gin and Tonic darling?’ she says
and thinks
               ‘we’re just like our parents
he might not be a dream at all’
that alarms her

well she buckles her stilettos on
thinks that should be slow enough

but there’s an upset
he comes puffing up
and overtakes her

and next minute
it’s the finish
she bites his head off
