Alan Brunton

recollections

Regrouping Early and Late

Alan said as he walked up the Charring Cross Road
To his little home above the book shops
That they had seized Fifth Avenue with guerilla theatre
The first in two years.
Seized by memory New Yorkers stopped.
A world moved before their eyes.
With naivety and numbers and, above all, oh with purity
They too had thought the world would change.

Alan had always remembered.
His long hair floated in the breeze.
He lifted his arms.

Arise citizens
Citizens of Fifth Avenue arise
Oh causes, outrages, memories, memories, regroup, regroup.
