Variations on Bashö's snow party

Could we not have an air party
taking tea at the window
then, sinuses prepared, walking

gathering lungfuls the way leaves
are swept into wide open-necked sacks
and afterwards comparing notes.

Some would find it neutral, scentless
others detect faint flavours passing
some might debate the role of trees

and standing under one look up
at a benefactor, thinking
a benediction was in order.
