Central Otago

In Central Otago
we walked a blue black road
through cherry orchard country –
White clouds and blue sky and always
and forever the brown and yellow hills.
From pine wood boxes
we ate cool summer fruit
beneath a roadside stall’s iron awning.
Halfway between Millers Flat
and Roxburgh –
on the road
as if the road
                      would never end.
