Paul and his ancestors

Paul is making
papier-mâché models
of his ancestors.

He shapes them in
paper and paste,
smooths over their
rough edges, gives
them each a sound
beginning in
chicken wire.

This way
they are of
manageable size.

He has put
a lightbulb inside
each person and
is considering
making them into
individual lamps or
an ancestral chandelier.

This way
his beginnings
light up the room like
so many global
revelations.
His ancestors gesticulate
wildly
they wave their arms
in the light
